Human rights report has no major effect on Sri Lanka Featured

When inquired regarding how the Sri Lanka's human rights report will effect the country the Chairman of Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission Attorney at law Prathiba Mahanamahewa stated that though there will not be a massive effect there is an indirect impact on the country.

prathiba-mahanamaSpeaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror' he stated that main and severe allegations are leveled against Sri Lanka Army and LTTE. "There is no LTTE by the moment.It is difficult to conclude to what extent it will be partial or impartial."

"However, this issue is different from what it used to be. USA which tabled the suggestion against Sri Lanka is Now remaining in a neutral position, "he said.

"In his speech the Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera stated that measures will be taken to set up a mechanism to unravel the truth,appoint a reconciliation commission and set up an office look into the cases of disappearances which brings a positive light to the situation, " he added.

"In this atmosphere Sri Lanka will definitely have to hold an internal investigation and implement promised mechanisms within a given period of time" , he said.
