Ekneligoda case suspects further detained Featured

The defence ministry yesterday (10) granted permission to the CID to further detain and question the 10 Army intelligence members, who were arrested in connection with the abduction and forced disappearance of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.

The order to detain them for one month period has been made under the PTA.

The suspects are Lt. Col. Shammi Kumara Ratnayake, Lt. Col. Siriwardena, Staff Sergeant Rajapakse, Corporal Jayalath, retired Sergeant Maj. Ranbanda, Sergeant Maj. Upasena, retired Corporal Ranjith Rupasena, Corporal Anurajeewa and ex-LTTE intelligence members Thavendran and Satya Masterm, who are with the Army.

In the course of its investigations, the CID has revealed the Army intelligence had run a shadow LTTE.

When contacted, acting police spokesman Priyantha Jayakody told Sri Lanka Mirror that he could not reveal details, as a court case was underway.

Our attempts to reach the defence secretary to obtain information regarding this detention order and the investigation were unsuccessful.
