Around 300 clergy and laity will gather at the Buddhist Centre in Kandy for the election starting at 2.00 pm.

Candidates for the position are Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara, Neranjan Wijeratne, Gayan Heenkenda and Rasika Sudantha Punchibandara Senanayake.

At the previous election in 2005, Dela Bandara received 199 votes, followed by 45 votes for Wijeratne, 40 votes for Mohan Panabokke and four votes for Senanayake.
