Jeyakumari arrested again Featured

Balendran Jeyakumari, a regular participant in protests against disappearances during the war, has been arrested once again, according to radiogagana.com.

As police had refused to grant her bail, the Padaviya courts have remanded her, according to lawyers.

Police say she had been arrested by Kilinochchi police on suspicion over a theft and handed over to Kebithigollewa police.

Jeyakumari was first arrested in Kilinochchi by the TID on 13 March 2014 along with her daughter Vibhushika on a charge of having aided a man wanted by police and kept detained for more than a year.

Her husband died due to cancer, while the eldest son Balendiran was killed at war in 2006.

The second son was a victim of shelling during the final stages of the war while on his way to military-controlled territory, while the third, who surrendered to the military at Mullivaikkal on the same day, remains missing.
