To be formed on a proposal by prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, these executive councils will have all parliamentarians, excepting the speaker and the deputy speaker, as their members.
To pave the way for that, clause 85 (2) of the constitution will be abolished, said a senior official at the prime minister’s office.
These executive councils will be empowered to supervise government as well as monetary affairs.
Also, they will check all the draft bills presented to parliament before their second reading.
The PM will soon submit a proposal to parliament to form these executive councils.
