CaFFE wants PTA abolished

CaFFE wants PTA abolished Featured

CaFFE says the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), which affects personal freedom, should be abolished.

Its executive director Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon says the government should immediately do away with or invalidate this most repressive act in the country’s history.

Addressing civil society activists at a meeting in Rajagiriya, he noted that the PTA was used to crackdown on journalists and civil society activists.

It is being used to detain persons for indefinite periods, he noted.

Although more than six years have passed since the defeat of the terrorism, the PTA is still in force, which is a disruption to the establishment of civilian administration, he said.
