Ms. Kumaratunga is a senior Advisor of the SLFP.

The decision was taken by the SLFP Chairman and President Maithripala Sirisena according to the powers vested in him by the party constitution.

According to the reports, Arjuna Ranatunga, Hirunika Premachandra, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Keheliya Rambukwella, Mervyn Silva, Johnston Fernando, Sajin Vass Gunawardena, Basil Rajapaksa and Dilan Perera were removed from the party CC before being replaced by 13 including Ms. Kumaratunga and Vishwa Warnapala.

The Elections Commissioner has been informed of the changes.
