Speaking during a media briefing at the JVP headquarters in Pelawatta yesterday (14), he said, “The excitement of the political situation has completely changed. The UNP or the UPFA would not get a majority that exceeds 113 seats. As such, the government that would be formed would definitely be a coalition."

"We ask the people in this country to give more seats to the JVP to strengthen the opposition in Parliament so that the arbitrary and undemocratic moves of the coalition that would be formed after the 18th could be thwarted," he added.

No unlimited power

"There is a possibility that the coalition that would be formed after the 18th would attempt to have unlimited power. This is dangerous for the people in the country... The task of the opposition has been handed over to the JVP. The UNP was the official opposition in the last Parliament. However, the JVP was the real opposition that lived in people’s conscience. The real Leader of the Opposition was Comrade Anura Dissanayaka," Mr. Herath said.

"We ask masses to strengthen Comrade Anura Dissanayaka to be the real Leader of the Opposition. Vote for the JVP and strengthen the ‘Voice of the Nation,’ he added.

Mr. Herath also emphasised that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will not be able to set up a government after this Gen. election.
