Public servants who neglect election duties and disregard instructions by the elections commissioner will be prosecuted, says the Elections Secretariat.

The upcoming parliamentary polls needs a staff of around 150,000.

However, certain public servants have been absent from election duties without giving any acceptable reason.

Following a reminder by the polls chief, most of them have applied for election duties.

Public servants found to have violated instructions by the elections commissioner face a three year imprisonment or a Rs. 100,000 fine, says the Elections Secretariat.
