The Chairman and 03 commissioners of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption (CIABOC) have hindered an attempt to seal an agreement between the CIABOC and the US government to look into concealed offshore assets of Sri Lankan politicians.

In a letter on July 24, the Director General of the CIABOC - Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe has informed President Maithripala Sirisena on this regard.

Under the initial approval of the CIABOC, its DG had held talks with US officials to launch a joint investigation on this regard.

Inviting the CIABOC DG to visit their country for further discussions and directions the US has offered to sponsor 03 officials to accompany her.

The DG was to go on the tour at her private expense while Deputy DG - J.M. Sunethra Indumathi, ASP M.T.T. Ruwan Kumara and IP Gamini Abeysinghe were to be sponsored by the US.

However, the CIABOC Chairman had refused to grant approval for the US tour and informed the DG to either cancel the tour or postpone it by two months.
