Susil concedes neither party can gain majority Featured

UPFA general secretary Susil Premajayantha concedes that there is a truth to the opinion that neither of the two main parties will gain the 113 seat majority at the upcoming parliamentary election to form a government.

He is responding to BBC Sinhala’s facebook chat programme, in which he was pointed out the TNA and the JVP are likely to garner more than 25 seats, and the two main parties will find it difficult to win the 113 seats out of the remaining 200 seats.

Foreign forces

Foreign forces are bent on pushing for a parliament without a majority in order to politically destabilize the country, according to him.

That is why the call for the abolition of the executive presidency came at the presidential election, and without a parliamentary majority, with whom a government can be formed?, he asked.

Identifying this threat, his party demanded a change for the electoral system parallel to the introduction of an executive prime minister through the 19th amendment, Premajayantha claimed.

If the election result is as feared, it will be a good piece of evidence for the people as to what the ulterior motive of the abolition of the executive presidency was, he said.

Ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa would find no issue in working with incumbent Maithripala Sirisena, he added.
