Ex-president Chandrika Kumaratunga is displeased and has expressed strong objections to incumbent Maithripala Sirisena’s decision to supend SLFP membership of Arjuna Ranatunga, Rajitha Senaratne, S.B. Nawinna, M.K.D.S. Gunawardena and Hirunika Premachandra, who are contesting the parliamentary election on the United National Front for Good Governance ticket, says sources close to her.

As the patron of the party, she will refrain from attending meetings organized by the suspended members, the sources say.

However, she will take part in public rallies being organized by the collective of citizens’ organizations and trade unions led by Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera, said its convener Saman Ratnapriya.

Returning home on July 25, she had earlier decided to participate in the election campaign of the suspended members.
