BBS to surround Sirasa!

BBS to surround Sirasa! Featured

Several organizations, led by Bodu Bala Sena, are to stage a major protest against Sirasa Media Network, accusing it of carrying out a communalistic media campaign by claiming the ‘Sinhale flag’ as a flag of communalists.

The BBS has sent SMS messages to its membership, asking them to bring ‘Sinhale flags’ and gather near JAIC Hilton Hotel at Union Place, Colombo at 10.00 am tomorrow (30), for the demonstration.

Its CEO Dilanthe Withanage told Sri Lanka Mirror that the BBS would join several organizations that have decided to stage the agitation against Sirasa for having insulted the flag.

He went onto say that they would continue to work towards making it the national flag, although Mahinda Rajapaksa had withdrawn using it due to government intimidation.

The BBS, which is contesting the parliamentary election as the Bodu Jana Peramuna with ‘cobra’ as the symbol, says it will take measures to legalise the country’s name as Sinhale and the flag used before 1815 and in 1948 as the national flag.

‘Sinhale flags’ at Rajapaksa rally

The Yatinuwara election rally of Rajapaksa has had ‘Sinhale flags’ raised, which has led to controversy in political circles.

In a statement yesterday, the UNP accused Rajapaksa of provoking communalism again in an attempt to win the south.

Issued by minister Lakshman Kiriella, it described this as an instance which shows that Rajapaksa does not hesitate to use any tactic available in his hate-politics.
