A white van trying to overtake a vehicle of Mirihana police was stopped and checked, in which the trio in civilian clothing and in the possession of a revolver were found.

Police were especially vigilant as former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and ex-defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa both live in Mirihana area now.

Taken to Mirihana police, the three men said under interrogation that they were the bodyguards of Maj. Gen. Silva.

Police asked the military police to submit a report as to whether the white van belongs to the Army.

Maj. Gen. Silva, commander of the Special Forces, led the 55 brigade and then commanded the 59 brigade during the final phase of the Wanni offensive.
