Wimal challenged over diary money Featured

Former UNP MP Nalin Bandara challenges Wimal Weerawansa to answer as to whose pocket Rs. 14 million of state money intended to print diaries for 2015 had gone to when he was the housing, construction and public utilities minister.

Weerawansa had collected Rs. 14 m from institutions coming under the ministry and given to Ocean View, also of the ministry, all of which are now under investigation by the FCID.

Speaking at the 16th ‘expose’ media briefing at Sirikotha yesterday (17), ex-MP Bandara said Ocean View had called for bids and given the tender to Imashi company of Nugegoda, at Rs. 350 per diary for a total of 40,000 diaries at a cost of Rs. 14 m.

However, only 2,000 diaries had been printed at a cost of Rs. 700,000, he said, and asked as to what had happened to the balance Rs. 13.3 m.
