The President's remarks during a special press briefing sparked much controversy among political circles.

Upon inquiring on this regard from minister of Fisheries - Mahinda Amaraweera, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' learnt that he is to resign from his ministerial portfolio today (15).

Minister Amaraweera said that he had decided to bid adieu to politics after being deeply dejected over the prevailing political situation.

He said that he arrived in Colombo today after halting election activities.
