Minister M.K.D.S. Gunewardena is one of them who said to be gravely despondent over the move. According to rumours, it is said that he is even preparing to contest the upcoming Gen. election under the UNP ticket.

Minister Gunewardena has said that the above decision would taint the trust placed on the President by 6.2 million people during the last Presidential election.

He said that he also has doubts whether the President has betrayed him.

However, he would continue to work on the orders of the President, Minister Gunewardena added.
