Upon inquiry Director of Consumer Affairs and Information Chandrika Thilakarathne told 'Sri Lanka Mirror' that the tests are to be done by Government Analyst's Department following the complaints received from the consumers with regard to the quality of salt.
The tests will be conducted to ensure that salt contains standard percentage of iodine indicated in the Regulations under the Food Act she said, adding that based on the analyst's report the salt manufacturers and public will be informed regarding it.
She further emphasized it is essential that the public pay attention to the consumption of recommended amount of iodine per day.
