Promises Change Directions is an organization based on a unique concept of Priyadarshanie Ariyarathne, Dhammika Pulasingha and Chithrani Abeygunawardhana old girls of Taxila Central College Horana with a thriving friendship of over 3 decades.
Ms. Dammika is a reputed business woman who developed a small family business in to a leading business entity utilizing her management skills. Ms. Chithrani is a Career Guidance Officer and a Personal Developmet Officer. Ms. Priyadarshanie is a retired teacher and an award winning Civil Society Activist.
The first endeavor of PCD is a scholarship scheme which started on 18th June 2015. Under this scheme, a scholarship worth of RS 50,000 (approximately $400)is awarded to a student studying for the GCE AL examination. A monthly sum of RS 2000 will be deposited every month to the bank account of the scholarship holder for a period of 25 months. The organization hopes to provide assistance to students on higher studies. Ceylon Teachers Union a leading teacher trade union collaborates with PCD to make this endeavor a success. Promises guide people towards successful destinations in life. A promise well kept is also a form of lifting up the life of another individual. The Promises Change Directions scholarship is awarded with a promise undertaken by the student to complete studies well and extend the concept by sponsoring for a scholarship before the completion of 20 years from the date of receiving the scholarship.
Marking the beginning of the scholarship programme, the first scholarship “Attorney at Law Rohana Ariyarathna scholarship” is awarded to Subramaniyam Ushanthini of W.P./Ho/C.C. Tamil Maha Vidyalalaya, Puwakpitiya on the 18th of June 2015 at a small function held at the school.
Terms of the scholarship
At the time of receiving the scholarship the students should be studying in the 1st year of the GCE AL in a government school.
Upon selecting the scholarship beneficiary, the financial background, academic and extracurricular performance, GCE O/L examination results and other special needs of the potential beneficiary will be considered.
"Promises Change Directions” will partially monitor the academic performance of the beneficiary during the time period of receiving the scholarship.
Contributions
Contributions of RS 55,000($425) will be drawn in from well-wishers and founders. Rs 5000($25) will be charged in order to monitor the student’s performance, coordinate scholarships and strengthen the scholarship fund.
The scholarship finances will be handed by the Bank Account holding the number 4655709 of Bank of Ceylon ,Horana.
The name of the scholarship will vary according to the request of the sponsor. (The person who provides the financial contribution to the scholarship)
The scholarships are awarded to needy students with no religious, ethnic, cultural or any other barriers.
