Elections commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has decided to set up a permanent representative committee to take decisions with regard to media activity during future elections.

The committee is to be initiated from the upcoming General election.

The committee will include representatives of the elections commissioner, the Human Rights Commission, the Prime minister and the media minister as well as representatives from all digital and print media institutions.

The committee will decide how media institutions function during an election.
