The petition was filed by Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero and Professor Carlo Fonseka, seeking an order to suspend the operation of the gazette notification on setting up of the FCID.

The petitioners state the establishment of the FCID contravenes the police ordinance and rule of law and that it is illegal to establish a sub-committee that comprises cabinet ministers and functions under the directive of the prime minister while there are 64 units of the police to investigate crimes and other related matters.

Meanwhile considering of the Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed against several individuals including Samurdhi and Housing Minister Sajith Premadasa, over the misuse of Samurdhi funds, was postponed until June 20 by the Supreme Court.
