Speaking at a media briefing, Finance minister - Ravi Karunanayake said that this particular Prado jeep was provided by the United Nations Organisation to provide tsunami relief.

Police constable Abhaya Priyantha, who was at the wheel when the jeep met with the accident had stated that although he had driven the jeep, he was unaware of its owner.

The vehicle was taken from the site of the accident on the intervention of Southern provincial councillor - D.V. Upul's wife and was concealed in a Weeraketiya land owned by Mahinda Rajapaksa.

A large number of vehicles from the former President's vehicular fleet had gone missing and the CID is holding investigations on this regard.
