Cabinet has approved a proposal put forward by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to elect 125 MPs from First-Past-the Post (FPP) system, 75 from Proportional Representation (PR) system and the remaining 25 members from the National List through the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera said.
The approval was granted during a special cabinet meeting which was held today (08) to take a final decision on the 20th Amendment.
He added that the matter was discussed for around 03 hours before an agreement was reached.
Perera further said that it would take around 04 days to draft the new proposal before it is tabled before the Cabinet again.
