The injured cyclist was taken to the Hingurakgoda Hospital while the expectant mother was taken to the Polonnaruwa Base Hospital.

The driver, identified as a one W.M. Jayasena Weerasekera was arrested by the Hingurakgoda police after it was revealed he was under the influence of alcohol. He was driving the ambulance bearing the number - WPLW 0177.

it is said that the cyclist too, was under the influence.

Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror', residents of the Medirigiriya area said that the Director of the Medirigiriya Hospital is negligent when it comes to Hospital staff and most of the male workers on night shift are under the influence.
