'President agreed to dissolve the parliament' -Akila Featured

The President Maithripala Sirisena agreed to dissolve the parliament due to the situation emerged with the no-faith motion, says United National Party (UNP).

Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated that the President and the Prime Minister engaged in a discussion on this regard and all measures will be taken upon their agreement.

Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya the minister has stated " the Prime Minister called me short while ago. He said that measures will be taken to dissolve the parliament and hold the election. All measures will be taken upon the agreement of the President and the Prime Minister. All shows of the opposition will end within very short period. Though a date is not announced the President has definitely agreed to dissolve the parliament".

Since establishing the new electoral system was delayed due to the behaviour of the opposition the election will be held according to the existing system, however the new system will be certainly passed in the future, the minister added.
