Making submissions to courts, the CID said a fresh investigation is underway on the orders of the IGP.
Police said recently that Thajudeen, who was found in his burnt car on
17 May 2012, had not died naturally.
At the time of the incident, police claimed it was a road accident, but the then opposition disputed it.
At the latest hearing, the magistrate ordered a private mobile service provider to furnish the necessary details to the CID, said lawyer Mohamed Misbaq, who represents the interests of the deceased.
The case was ordered to be taken up again on July 06.
Investigations are focusing on a member of the Rajapaksa family and a girl, who is a former employee of a sports television channel.
A love affair and professional jealousy are said to have led to Thajudeen’s death.
