President Maithripala Sirisena was not present at yesterday’s casket placing of the historic Polonnaruwa Perahera.

The Perahera was conducted for the 43rd time.

Previously, it was Mr. Sirisena who had carried out the task.

Chief guest on the occasion was north central province chief minister Peshala Jayaratne.

A large number of crowds viewed the Perahera.
