2 gold for Lanka at science Olympiad Featured

Rakhitha Dilshan Malewana of Nalanda College, Colombo won gold from South Asia region at the International Science Project Olympiad for a project on a drug for AIDS.

Participants from 41 countries took part in the competition.

Another Nalandian, Rananjaya Subhash too, won gold for his project on a method to use water fungi to remove heavy metal in water.

These are the first gold medals won by a South Asian country at the International Science Project Olympiad.

In total, 183 projects were submitted on physics, chemistry, biology, environment and technology.

Four gold were on offer, and the two remaining gold were won by Indonesia and Belarus.
