Mangala asks president to dissolve parliament

Mangala asks president to dissolve parliament Featured

Foreign affairs minister Mangala Samarawera asked president Maithripala Sirisena at last night’s cabinet meeting to dissolve parliament without further postponement and hold general elections.

However, health minister Rajitha Senaratne said a House dissolution would not be possible without first adopting the 20th amendment to the constitution.

Meanwhile, JVP leader Anura Kumara Disssanayake says the confidence in the 100 day government has been totally negated, and that it should not be allowed to continue ruling the country.

The SLFP wants the new electoral system adopted before a dissolution of parliament, opposition leader Nimal Siripala de Silva told the media yesterday.
