Was Salman Khan involved in a motor accident in Sri Lanka ? Featured

Sentenced to five years in jail by a Mumbai court on Wednesday(May 06th) Bollywood superstar Salman Khan returned home for two nights after the Bombay High Court granted interim bail.

Salman drove down to his sea-facing joint family residence in Galaxy Apartments in Bandra West, a short distance from the scene of the September 28, 2002 accident in which he was found guilty of running over five people, leaving one dead. Khan virtually received a hero’s welcome as his vehicle approached his home around 8 p.m, where a large number of excited fans, some crying and others screaming, waited to catch a glimpse of their heart-throb.

His personal security detail managed to keep away some fans who surrounded Salman’s car and whisked him off to his home where his family members waited. Most of bollywood came out in support of actor Salman Khan, citing his humanitarian work and the work he has done for the community. Khan’s Friends Farah Khan Ali and Abhijeet Bhattacharya appeared to have stirred up a furore, after blaming people sleeping on the roads for Khan’s plight.

Meanwhile during campaigning for the 2015 Presidential Election there were rumors that a back-up vehicle attached to Bollywood Actor Salman Khan’s security detail was involved in an accident, during the actors visit to Sri Lanka. The accident left a young boy and girl with serious injuries. Salman Khan arrived in the Island late last year, to campaign for the recently concluded Presidential Elections.

The accident took place in the Kalapaluwawa area in Rajagiriya injuring a 18-year-old youth and a 17-year-old girl. According to an eye-witness account a Defender Jeep which was travelling at high-speed had knocked down the two who were at a bus stand.

Later, another Defender jeep had arrived at the scene of the accident and had whisked away the driver of the vehicle in question. The youth who was seriously injured and was receiving treatment at the ICU of the National Hospital in Colombo later returned home.

However, according to the Police, on the said day although actor Salman Khan had visited a school in the area, there is a gap in the timeline of incidents. The Police stated that they suspect that a University Student who was attending a wedding ceremony at a hotel in the area had caused the accident along with another friend and were driving the Defender Jeeps.

Later when it was revealed that the number of plates of the Defender Jeep were fake, the Police seized another Defender Jeep bearing the name number plates. These numbers were registered under the name of a Minister from the previous administration.

Providing a statement to the Police, the Former Minister had said that he had sold the Jeep bearing those numbers to another individual. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
