The UNP claims the next general election will be held under the current proportional representation (PR) system, despite calls by the SLFP to pass the 20th Amendment to the Constitution on electoral reforms.

The SLFP has called for the holding of the next general election under a new electoral system.

However, UNP General Secretary, Minister Kabir Hashim told a news conference yesterday that there was not enough time to pass the 20th Amendment and implement the electoral reforms before the next general election.

Therefore, Hashim said the next general election will be held under the PR system.
