An old boy of Richmond College, Galle, Jayasekera joined the media field in 1987 from the 'Ravaya' newspaper, where he later functioned as the News Editor.
He later became the Deputy Editor of 'Irudina' newspaper as well as a Director at the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI).
He is known as an activist who played a major and decisive role to secure media rights during the Rajapaksa regime.
