Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror' the Chairman of the association - Ramalingam Chandrasekaran stated that as a result over 300,000 estate workers are still compelled to work for a meagre daily wage of Rs. 450.
He further stated that though a bonus of Rs 140 is offered for the workers who complete the maximum attendance limit of 25 days a months, 75% of the workers are deprived of this as well.
According to the prevailing Cost of Living, the existing salary is utterly insufficient and it should be increased to Rs.800, he said.
He further said that they would resort to Trade Union action if a reasonable solution was not provided, he added.
