The financial crime investigation division is to expedite investigations into the Rs. 620 million fraud in the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission during the previous regime.

The division will question former secretary to the president Lalith Weeratunga, former TRC chairman Anusha Pelpita and former presidential adviser Watinahapa Somananda Thera.

The investigation is about an allegation that Rs. 620 million of TRC money was spent to distribute, four days before the presidential election, clothes to observe sil.

A police spokesman said those involved could be charged with abuse of state property and funds.
