The main accuastion against W.A. Ranaweera is that he had drawn salaries at the same time from two state institutions, one from the Vocational Training Authority as its deputy director, and the other as working director of the Central Cultural Fund.
Ranaweera had also obtained vehicles and fuel from both institutions.
He is yet to return the allowances he had received from the CCF, despite being ordered to do so.
COPE has received information regarding these frauds, but investigations against him were suspended due to intervention by Basil Rajapaksa at the request of T.B. Thilakasiri, both of whom are in remand custody over the swindling of Divi Neguma funds.
The Vocational Training Authority has 250 centres in 22 districts, a staff of nearly 2,000 and gives training to around 25,000 youths a year.
