The Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has emphasized that the mechanism against corruption will not be weakened under any circumstance.

He has made the particular statement at a progress review meeting held at Temple Trees yesterday (24).

Wickremesinghe further commented on the public pleasure expressed towards the method of arresting the wrongdoers.

At the meeting it was revealed that Financial Crimes Investigation Division of Police (FCID) has received 52 complaints regarding massive financial frauds where millions of public revenue has been misused and out of that the investigations into 26 allegations have been concluded.

The FCID which has submitted the finalized investigation reports to court has requested permission to further the investigations.

Recording statements or arresting those who are connected to the crimes will be carried out in near future following the obtaining of court approval.

Number of financial frauds revealed

The investigations are being conducted into the financial fraud occurred in 52 institutions including purchasing MIG aircraft for Sri Lanka Air Force, financial irregularities at Lanka Hospitals, Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Kerawalapitiya Power Station, CSN television channel, Divi Neguma project, oil hedging deal and People's Leasing.
