The Central Working Committee of the AASL had rejected Harin's nomination on Sunday (20) based on the grounds that he has not fulfilled the basic requirement to contest for the particular position.
However, Harin's party argued that since he has obtained the permission of the Sports Minister it does not restrict him from contesting.
Harin has submitted nominations for the AASL election, which is scheduled to be held on 14 May, through the Gampaha District Athletics Association.
The Harin's party states that since there is no indication in the Sports Act with regard to the time period to obtain the Sport Minister's letter of permission, the nomination cannot be rejected.
The attempt made to contact Harin Fernando to inquire on the matter was unsuccessful.
