5,000 lives at risk at Negombo hospital!

5,000 lives at risk at Negombo hospital! Featured

The eight-storey new building of Negombo general hospital is on the verge of collapse.

As a result, the around 5,000 lives of the hospital staff and patients are at risk, says a senior official of the hospital.

The Korean constructed building was handed over to the hospital in 2001, but water dripping and electricity leakage had been reported since.

This building houses the ICU, surgical theatres, OPD, wards and the ENT unit.

This situation has arisen due to the neglect of responsibilities by the western provincial council which is in charge of the running of the hospital.

Religious leaders who lodged a complaint in this regard to the police asked that the hospital be taken over immediately by the central government.

Maristella college too, at risk

The students of the neighbouring Maristella College too, are in danger as a result of this situation.

Parents have discussed this and decided to bring it to the attention of the college administration.
