JHU refuses to exonerate Mahendran

JHU refuses to exonerate Mahendran Featured

The JHU charges that the investigation report by three lawyers appointed by the prime minister to investigate the controversial Central Bank bond issue is biased.

Noting that the matter has been referred to courts too, the JHU asks that a panel with expertise in finance be appointed to conduct an impartial investigation.

The party requests the president to ensure justice and establish good governance in the financial sector with a fresh investigation, says a statement issued by JHU media spokesman Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe.

The statement says that from the beginning, minister Patali Champika Ranawaka objected to Arjun Mahendran being appointed the CB governor.

The minister also raised the issues of his citizenship and noted that Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. owned by mahendran’s son-in-law Arjun Aloycius is a bidder at CB transactions.

The JHU statement adds that prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had accepted responsibility for Mahendran.

This financial crime at the CB following his appointment has brought disrepute to the rule of president Maithripala Sirisena, who ordered an investigation upon hearing it.

But, the PM had appointed three lawyers with no financial expertise, but are loyal to the UNP, to investigate.

This committee has issued a report exonerating Mahendran and recommending a further investigation into Perpetual Treasuries Ltd., the statement adds.
