Mahendran’s passport impounded

The Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka has impounded the passport of the Governor of the Central Bank, Arjuna Mahendran following an order from the Bribery Commission.

The Department has announced that the passport has been impounded for a period of three months banning the Governor, who is a Singapore citizen, from overseas travel.

The passport has been impounded according to a request made by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The Commission yesterday interrogated Mahendran for nearly six hours over the alleged irregularities in the Treasury bond auction in February this year.
