India’s on-arrival visa fails to benefit pilgrims

India’s on-arrival visa fails to benefit pilgrims Featured

The on-arrival visa facility given from April 14 for Sri Lankans visiting India has failed to fully benefit pilgrims travelling to Buddhist places of worship in India and Nepal, pilgrimage organizers say.

It is helpful for business and other travellers only, they have told BBC Sandeshaya.

The issuance of single visa for pilgrims on arrival does not help them to go to Nepal and come back to India, said Upali Gunasena of Pinsara pilgrimage organizers.

The double visa facility had to be utilized for such visitors, he said.

3 month law

Also, a new law prevents a visitor receiving single visa to India from returning within the next three months, said Gunasena.

For such travellers, double visa was obtained from Indian high commissions and consular offices, he said.

He went onto say that pilgrims to India and Nepal would benefit if they are issued with double visa on arrival.
