Dissolution of parliament to be delayed? Featured

Decisions taken by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) parliamentary group, which met in the parliamentary complex yesterday (11) under the Chairmanship of President Maithripala Sirisena, could delay dissolving Parliament.

Speaking to ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’, minister of Fisheries Mahinda Amaraweera said that the SLFP parliamentary group decided that the 19th and 20th Amendments, which seek to curb executive powers as well as to introduce electoral reforms, should be enacted simultaneously.

Last Thursday, President Maithripala Sirisena said that the 19th Amendment seeking to curb executive powers would be tabled in parliament on April 20 and that parliament would be dissolved after the 19th Amendment is passed.

However, according to the decision taken last evening which was backed by the President himself, dissolution of parliament could be delayed from 02 to 03 months, the minister added.
