MR speaks of executive powers

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that some of the powers vested with the executive presidency should be slashed.

Rajapaksa, who held the post of executive presidency for two terms, has now claimed that executive powers should be curbed.

The former President has made this comment in response to a question posed by journalists at the Abhayarama temple in Narahenpita where he met with a group of trade union representatives.

According to Rajapaksa, the slashing of executive powers was included in the Mahinda Chinthana policy. However, measures were not adopted to carry out the promise.
