During an exclusive interview with Mandana Ismail for 'Sri Lanka Mirror', he said, "Everybody asks me this question."

Because of many reasons,"certain people are pushing me to politics," he said.

However, he said that he is yet to decide upon a political party.

"When I was given this responsibility (as defence secretary) I worked genuinely for the country. And I have done that and I have produced results..."

"My main aim was to serve the people... the country. So I thought as Secretary defence... as a government official, I was happy to do that and I did that... If I have another opportunity to serve the country I will do that," he added.
