A special discussion was yesterday (31) under the patronage of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa over the Opposition Leader post. The discussion had lasted over three hours and all opposition parties have been given the opportunity to express their opinion on the matter.
Expressing his views, JVP leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said that since members of the SLFP hold ministerial positions in the national government Nimal Siripala De Silva could not hold the office of Opposition leader.
The JVP leader has further pointed out that since it would be UPFA MPs including the SLFP who would be supporting MP Dinesh Gunawardena who is a member of the UPFA, he too could not be appointed as the Opposition Leader.
Dissanayake has maintained that other political parties in the opposition should decide on the post of Opposition Leader.
