Speaking at an event in Battaramulla, Kumaratunge has said the public were unable to enjoy the true benefits of peace soon after the end of the war.

Kumaratunge has noted that although the former government should have had funds after the war ended, the Treasury has now been found in a virtually empty state.

The former President has added that the new government is now being forced to pay loans running into millions of dollars owing to the mismanagement of funds by the former regime.
