Sirisena (40), was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Colombo following an axe attack.

The attack had taken place around 7.00pm on March 26 and the suspect behind the attack was arrested later.

He was produced before courts and was ordered to be held in remand custody until April 08.

Last morning, police also found the axe used in the assault.

The incident is said to have taken place due to a personal dispute and Polonnaruwa police are conducting further investigations.
