Call to appoint interim committee for Judo Association

Secretary of Sri Lanka Judo Association (SLJA) Major Tharindu Weerasinghe has requested to appoint an interim committee for the association.

He cites the prevailing crisis ridden situation for the SLJA as the reason for this request.

Noting that the incumbent president of the SLJA is behind many financial frauds and malpractices that has taken place within the association, Weerasinghe charges that the President and the Vice Secretary have called for nominations without informing him or the SLJA Vice President.

According to the Sports Act, it is the secretary who is empowered to call for nominations and the Annual General Meeting. However, the Vice Secretary has no power to do so, Weerasinghe further says.

He further charges that 4-year budget of the SLJA presented to the Sports ministry by the SLJA President and the Vice Secretary also has issues.

Charging that the budget is a fake one, Weerasinghe says that he has lodged a formal complaint with the sports ministry secretary on this regard.

Noting that he had earlier complained to the former sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage over the conduct of the SLJA, Weerasinghe said that no action was taken.

The SLJA president who is a businessman in Nawalapitiya, is a cousin of former sports director general Ranjani Jayakodi, and therefore no probe was conducted against him, Weerasinghe added.
