As a result, she now has to abandon all investigations into the irregularities that taken place in her ministry, under her predecessor, Dilan Perera.
Minister Athukorale revealed these irregularities while addressing the graduate women’s association recently.
They include – the spending of Rs. 12.6 million to lay the foundation for a training centre, Rs. 5.6 m to train a devotional song recital team for last Vesak, Rs. 3.5 m to give alms, Rs. 1.1 m on a Christmas party last year, while the Bureau of Foreign Employment had spent Rs. 36.2 m on its publicity campaign.
She went onto say bringing the ministry back on the correct path cannot be done in a month or two, as the officials remain despite a change in the minister.
