Parliament won't be dissolved in April Featured

As more time is needed to implement a constitutional amendment after establishing a national government, it is highly likely that a general election will not be held in June, new state minister of Labour - Jeewan Kuamaratunga said.

"Most likely Parliament won't be dissolved on April 23. We have a large chunk of work to do before that," the minister said, speaking to 'BBC Sandeshaya'.

Dates for the general election would be fixed after fulfilling several tasks including the clipping of the President's executive powers and implementing electoral reforms in accordance with the 100-day programme, he added.
